Nonna’s Tomato Sauce

Simple, sweet and so perfectly paired with any of The Salty Dough Co. pastas - truly!

Serves: 4

INGREDIENTS: 

  • 3 cups tomato sauce (about 2.5 cans)
  • 1 ½  cup water
  • 1 ½  tbs sugar
  • ⅓  cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt 
  • ⅓  tsp garlic powder 
  • ½  tsp dry oregano
  • ½  tsp dry basil or 6-7 fresh leaves
  • Few flakes of  crushed red pepper (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a medium pot, add oil, tomato sauce and water. Stir on medium heat for a minute
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients, cover and bring to a gentle boil for 2-3 minutes.  
  3. Reduce heat to low/simmer for about 1 hour. Stir occasionally. Be sure not to let it thicken too much or burn.
